A Brand New Bentley

The Totts are at it again trying to prove they are a big team. After signing Darren Bent last season they have only gone and given their bank manager kittens by signing David Bentley from Blackburn for sommut like 17 million quid.

Sorted.

This is a lad who was impatient to break into the Arsenal first team, goddam that Bergkamp and Pires, so he went off to fulfill his potential elsewhere. Like Norwich. And Blackburn. And now Tottenham.

If he had just a little patience he could have been a regular at the Arse and playing Champions League football. Instead he's just becoming another journeyman English pro with a big opinion of himself but an empty trophy cabinet.

Blackburn are trying to replace him with Jermain Pennant. Another ex Arsenal boy who has achieved zilch after being in a hurry.

You Gotta Love Tottenham

Or maybe not.

Just weeks after Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan complained about being short changed over the transfer of teenager John Bostock now it is the turn of Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy to get upset.

The sale of Robbie Keane has left him whinging and moaning despite banking the best part of 20 million quid.

He is moaning about the way Liverpool approached the player and the way the irish striker requested a transfer.

"I have already made my opinion clear on this transaction," Levy said. "I don't regard it as a transfer deal – that is something which happens between two clubs when they both agree to trade – this is very much an enforced sale."

"I was incredibly disappointed when I first heard not only that Liverpool had been working behind the scenes to bring Robbie to Anfield, but that Robbie himself wanted to go and he submitted a transfer request to this effect."

"They have apologised and agreed to make a donation to our club's main charity. Tottenham has therefore agreed not to pursue its official complaint to the Premier League."

So he was disppointed that Robbie wanted to leave his 'beloved' Spurs? Aah bless...

As well as donating to Tottenham's main charity, whatever that maybe, it is also believed Liverpool will hold a minute's silence before their first home game of the season and Rafa will write out a hundred times 'I must not sign players who want to play for Liverpool' 100 times and post it on the club website.

Nigeria for 1.5 Million

There is something refreshingly honest about Sir Alex Ferguson. Last season he was quoted as saying he would take his team anywhere if the money was right and he has proved as good as his word.

Mid season he took them to Saudi Arabia to play a testimonial for a player no one had heard of playing for a team no one had heard of.

Just now he added to the lads air miles by heading to South Africa then playing in Nigeria 24 hours later.

No complaining there of a tight fixture schedule eh Al?

Robbie Keane for 20 Million?

After spells with Coventry, Wolves, Inter and Leeds Robbie Keane, 28 years old, has joined Liverpool for the laughable sum of 20 million quid plus a donation to the Tottenham charity whatever that maybe.

Local players do carry a premium for whatever reason but Benitez has gone bonkers on this one. I agree that it is an astute signing and Keane could gel well with Fernando Torres, the nonsense here is the sum.

If Liverpool win the Premier League or and the Champions League next season then Rafa will argue he has spent well.

He'd better win something 'cos at 28 Keane hasn't got long left at the top and he will have no re sell value as he ages.

No wonder most clubs are content to spend a couple of million on nobodies like Teemu Tannio and Pascal Chimbonda
